Sailing FAQ

What should I bring?

We suggest checking the weather before your sail. It is always a good idea to bring warm layers and sun protection.

Can kids come sailing?

Yes! Children are welcome onboard as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. Katie M is a great boat for the whole family.

How many people can you take?

Katie M can accommodate up to six guests.

Do children and babies count towards the 6 passenger maximum?

Yes, under US Coast Guard regulations we operate as a 6 passenger vessel. The USCG recognizes ALL humans, young or old, onboard as passengers. Under no circumstance will we leave the dock with more than 6 guests.

Where is Katie M Docked?

Katie M is docked at Point Hudson Marina on the east side of down town Port Townsend. For directions to the boat, click here.

Where do we sail?

We mainly sail along the water front in Port Townsend Bay.

What if the weather is bad?

If the weather is deemed hazardous by the captain the sail will be canceled and a full refund will be issued or you can reschedule your sail. We will not cancel a sail due to light rain.

Do you offer fishing charters?

No, we do not allow fishing from our boat.

Should we bring our own life jackets?

We carry coast guard approved type I PFD’s (personal floatation devices). We also carry comfortable life jackets for any guest who would like to wear one. Adults may choose to wear a life jacket but it is not required. Children 12 years old and younger must wear a life jacket. We have a variety of child sized life jackets on board but you are welcome to bring your own if you would like.

What about food and drinks?

We encourage you to bring your own snacks and beverages. The cockpit table is the perfect place for hors d’oeuvres and we have a cooler down below to keep your drinks cold. Please no red wine.

What about tipping?

Wind and waves can tip the boat but only you can tip the Captain! Gratuity for the crew is much appreciated.

Is there a bathroom aboard Katie M?

Yes, there is a small marine toilet in the forward cabin aboard Katie M. There is also a bathroom ashore available for use before and after your sail.

Do we need to sign a release waiver?

Yes, we will have waivers ready for you to sign upon your arrival at Katie M.
